Nagpur, January 7 – Two children, aged seven and 13, have tested positive for Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) in Nagpur, Maharashtra. This marks the first reported cases of the virus in the state. Both children exhibited symptoms such as cough and fever, prompting medical attention.
HMPV is a respiratory virus that can cause symptoms similar to the common cold, including respiratory distress and fever. It is transmitted through respiratory droplets, physical contact, and potentially through airborne transmission. Health authorities are closely monitoring the situation as the virus can spread quickly in communities.
In response to the cases, local health officials have issued advisories urging the public to practice good hygiene, including handwashing and wearing masks in crowded places. They have also emphasized the importance of seeking medical care if any symptoms arise, particularly for vulnerable individuals.
