Dubai, January 6, 2025 – The International Cricket Council (ICC) is exploring the possibility of a two-tier Test system to enhance competition in the longest format of the game. In partnership with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Cricket Australia (CA), and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), the ICC is evaluating the feasibility of creating a more structured Test match calendar.
The proposed system would divide Test-playing nations into two tiers, with the top-tier teams playing more competitive series. This initiative aims to make Test cricket more exciting and provide emerging teams with opportunities to challenge established cricketing powers.
While still in the early stages, the two-tier system could bring significant changes to international Test cricket. A final decision will be made after consulting with various cricket boards and stakeholders.
