Anakapalle Jaggery Market Shifts to Smaller Blocks Amid Rising Demand

Anakapalle, January 6, 2025: In Anakapalle, the jaggery market has seen a shift with the introduction of smaller 10 kg blocks, alongside the traditional 15-16 kg ones. The demand for these smaller blocks has increased, particularly from traders in Odisha and West Bengal. Anakapalle’s jaggery market has gained national recognition, with exports mainly going to Odisha, Bengal, Maharashtra, and Karnataka. However, local manufacturers are concerned about how the new 10-11 kg blocks might affect export patterns.

In the open market, jaggery costs around Rs. 60 per kg. A 10 kg block from Anakapalle is priced at approximately Rs. 1000, while blocks from Maharashtra and Karnataka are available for Rs. 600. Consumers’ preference for smaller purchases has led to a rise in demand for the smaller blocks. Farmers from regions like Nagulapalli, Munagapaka, and Ompolu are now focusing on producing these smaller-sized blocks, aligning with market demands and potentially benefiting exports.
