12 Bangladesh Nationals Taken into Custody by Delhi Police for Residing Illegally Without IDs

(December 31, 2024) — In a significant operation, the Delhi Police detained 12 Bangladesh nationals who were found living in the city without valid identification documents. The arrests were made during a late-night raid in the Seelampur area, based on intelligence inputs regarding illegal immigrants residing in the locality

According to officials, the detained individuals failed to produce any valid identification or travel documents during the verification process. Preliminary investigations revealed that they had allegedly entered India through unauthorized routes and had been living in the area for several months. Authorities are now working to ascertain how they managed to evade detection for so long.

The police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Foreigners Act and are conducting further inquiries. “We are investigating their mode of entry into India and whether they were part of any organized network involved in human trafficking or illegal migration,” a senior police official said.

This operation is part of a broader crackdown by the Delhi Police to identify and deport illegal immigrants residing in the capital. In recent months, several such raids have been conducted in various parts of the city, with authorities emphasizing the importance of maintaining national security and preventing unauthorized migration.

The detained individuals are currently being held in a detention center, and the authorities have initiated the process of coordinating with the Bangladeshi High Commission for their deportation. The police have also urged citizens to report any suspicious activities or individuals living without proper documentation to ensure the safety and security of the community.
