BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj Condemns AAP Over Anganwadi Worker Dues, Seeks Delhi L-G’s Intervention

(December 31, 2024) — BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj has strongly criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government for its alleged failure to pay the salaries of Anganwadi workers in Delhi. Following her meeting with Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena, Swaraj addressed the media, calling the situation “shameful” and accusing the Delhi government of neglecting the welfare of grassroots workers who play a crucial role in child and maternal care.

During her statement, Swaraj highlighted the struggles faced by Anganwadi workers due to months of delayed payments. “These workers are the backbone of our community health and nutrition system. It is disgraceful that the AAP government has ignored their rightful dues,” she said. Swaraj further urged the Delhi government to take immediate action and release the pending payments to the workers.

The BJP MP’s meeting with the Delhi L-G was aimed at seeking his intervention in resolving the issue. Swaraj reportedly submitted a detailed memorandum outlining the financial hardships faced by the Anganwadi workers and the critical role they play in implementing government schemes at the grassroots level. The L-G assured her that he would take up the matter with the concerned authorities.

This issue has drawn sharp criticism from the opposition as well as worker unions, who accuse the AAP government of prioritizing populist schemes while ignoring basic responsibilities. Several Anganwadi workers have expressed their anguish, stating that delayed payments have made it difficult to manage their households. Protests by workers demanding timely salaries have also gained momentum in recent weeks.

The BJP has vowed to keep the pressure on the Delhi government until the dues are cleared. Swaraj’s remarks come at a time when the AAP government is already facing criticism over its handling of welfare programs. This controversy is likely to further escalate the political battle between AAP and BJP in the national capital.
