Andhra Pradesh Boosts Social Security with Simplified NTR Bharosa Pension Scheme

Amaravati, December 28, 2024: The Andhra Pradesh government has simplified the NTR Bharosa Pension Scheme with the aim of extending social security pensions to a larger number of beneficiaries. The new system eliminates the previous practice of granting pensions every four months. Now, under the revamped scheme, the government will immediately grant pensions to the widows of pensioners upon the death of their spouses. This reform has introduced the “spouse category,” which allows the widows to receive the pension for the same month their spouse passes away. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had announced this initiative during his visit to Srikakulam district on November 1, 2024.

As part of this overhaul, the government has granted pensions to 5,402 new beneficiaries under the widow category from November 1 to December 15, 2024. These beneficiaries are widows whose husbands were already receiving pensions, but after their passing, they were promptly included in the pension scheme. The government plans to distribute a pension amount of Rs. 4,000 to these 5,402 individuals on December 31, 2024.

Additionally, around 50,000 beneficiaries who had missed out on receiving their pensions over the last three months due to various reasons will also be provided pensions. These beneficiaries will receive their combined pension payments for two or three months together, which will be distributed in a lump sum on December 31, 2024. This initiative ensures that more people benefit from the NTR Bharosa Pension Scheme, enhancing the state’s commitment to social welfare.
