Coimbatore, December 27, 2024: In a dramatic protest against the alleged sexual assault of a female student at Anna University in Chennai, Tamil Nadu BJP Chief K. Annamalai whipped himself six times outside his residence in Coimbatore. Clad in a green dhoti, Annamalai performed the act as a symbolic gesture of his outrage, with BJP party cadres chanting “Vetrivel, Veeravel” in support of his cause.
Annamalai had earlier announced his intention to whip himself six times, go on a 48-hour fast, and refrain from wearing shoes until the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government is removed from power. The BJP leader condemned the sexual assault incident and criticized the state’s police for their alleged mishandling of the case, calling for swift action and justice.
The protest has garnered widespread attention, with both political leaders and citizens demanding enhanced security measures for students and swift justice in the case. Annamalai’s actions highlight the growing tensions between the BJP and the ruling DMK government, particularly concerning the handling of this serious issue.
