Mumbai, December 24, 2024: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has cleared the air on the voter turnout in the recent Maharashtra Assembly elections, following concerns raised by the Congress party. The Congress had questioned the reported turnout, claiming that discrepancies existed between the official figures and actual voter participation. However, the ECI has swiftly addressed these concerns, affirming that the reported turnout figures are accurate and that all necessary procedures were followed during the election process.
The Congress party had voiced its concerns, alleging that the reported voter turnout of over 60% in certain constituencies might have been inflated. They questioned the transparency of the electoral process and demanded a detailed explanation from the ECI. In response, the Election Commission clarified that the figures were compiled using multiple methods, including data from electronic voting machines (EVMs), voter lists, and physical verification. The ECI also emphasized that the turnout figures are consistent with previous elections in the state, and no irregularities were found.
With the ECI’s clarification, the controversy over voter turnout appears to be resolved, allowing the focus to shift back to the post-election political developments in Maharashtra. The Congress, however, has indicated that it will continue to monitor the election process closely, ensuring transparency in the future.
