Bengaluru, December 23, 2024: In a shocking incident, a software engineer from Bengaluru has fallen victim to the ‘Digital Arrest’ scam, losing a staggering Rs 11.8 crore. The scam, which has been gaining momentum across the country, involves fraudulent individuals posing as law enforcement officers, claiming that the victim is involved in criminal activities and demanding large sums of money to avoid arrest.
The victim, a 35-year-old software engineer, was reportedly contacted by scammers who falsely claimed that he had been implicated in a cybercrime case. They threatened to arrest him unless he paid a hefty amount to clear his name. Fearing for his safety and unaware of the scam, the engineer transferred multiple installments of money over the course of several days, ultimately losing Rs 11.8 crore.
Police have initiated an investigation into the incident, urging the public to be vigilant and avoid falling prey to such scams. The authorities have also raised awareness about the increasing number of digital frauds, stressing the importance of verifying any such claims before making any payments.
