Delhi AQI Soars to 448, Air Quality Remains ‘Severe’ Amid Cold Wave

New Delhi, December 19, 2024: Delhi’s air quality remains in the ‘Severe’ category, with the AQI recorded at 448 today. Despite GRAP-IV (Graded Response Action Plan) measures, including bans on construction and non-essential vehicular movement, pollution levels have not improved. Dense fog, coupled with a cold wave, has further reduced visibility and added to residents’ discomfort.

Low wind speeds are preventing the dispersion of pollutants, worsening the pollution crisis. Authorities have closed schools and colleges and urged people to minimize outdoor activities. However, the measures have provided little relief, leaving residents increasingly concerned about the health risks associated with hazardous air.

Experts are calling for urgent, long-term solutions to tackle Delhi’s recurring air quality issues. Meanwhile, the city continues to grapple with the dual challenges of severe pollution and the ongoing cold wave.
