
Visakhapatnam, December 19, 2024: The Indian Navy commissioned its latest hydrographic survey vessel, INS Nirdeshak, at an official ceremony today. The event, attended by senior naval officers and dignitaries, marked a significant milestone in the Navy’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its maritime capabilities. INS Nirdeshak is the second of the four survey vessels (large) being built indigenously under the “Make in India” initiative, emphasizing self-reliance in defense manufacturing.
Equipped with cutting-edge technologies, INS Nirdeshak will play a crucial role in conducting hydrographic surveys, aiding coastal mapping, and ensuring the safety of maritime navigation in the Indian Ocean Region. The vessel’s advanced equipment includes multi-beam echo sounders, autonomous underwater vehicles, and specialized systems for underwater charting. Additionally, it will support search and rescue operations, disaster relief missions, and contribute to the Navy’s blue-water capabilities.
Speaking at the ceremony, naval officials highlighted the strategic importance of INS Nirdeshak in safeguarding India’s maritime interests.
