“Delhi Government’s ‘Sanjeevani Yojana’ to Offer Free Medical Treatment to Senior Citizens”

DELHI : In a significant move aimed at supporting the elderly population in Delhi, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced the launch of the ‘Sanjeevani Yojana,’ a comprehensive healthcare scheme designed to provide free treatment to senior citizens. Speaking at an event on Tuesday, Kejriwal emphasized that the initiative would ensure elderly citizens receive the best medical care without the burden of financial costs.

“Sanjeevani Yojana is a promise from the government that your children will not be the only ones taking care of you in your old age; the Delhi government will stand by you, providing free healthcare services,” Kejriwal said. The scheme, which will cover a wide range of medical services, including hospitalization, surgeries, and medicines, is aimed at improving the quality of life for Delhi’s elderly population, many of whom face financial constraints when it comes to healthcare.

The scheme will be available to all senior citizens aged 60 and above, with no income-based restrictions. Kejriwal noted that the initiative was part of the Delhi government’s broader vision to create a welfare state that looks after its citizens at every stage of life. “We believe that no senior citizen should have to suffer due to medical expenses. This scheme will make healthcare accessible to all,” he added.

Under the Sanjeevani Yojana, Delhi’s government-run hospitals will be at the forefront of providing treatment, while private hospitals will also be roped in for specialized care. Kejriwal highlighted that the government had already made arrangements with healthcare providers to ensure the timely and efficient delivery of services.

The announcement was met with widespread praise from various quarters, including senior citizen associations and healthcare experts, who hailed the move as a significant step towards ensuring better healthcare access for the elderly. As part of the launch, Kejriwal also revealed plans to conduct awareness campaigns to educate people about the benefits and enrollment process for the scheme.
