Delhi-NCR Air Quality Worsens: Schools Shift to Hybrid Classes to Protect Students

New Delhi, December 17, 2024: With air quality in Delhi-NCR worsening to severe levels, schools across the region have been forced to shift classes to a hybrid mode. The decision comes as pollution levels continue to rise, posing serious health risks to children and vulnerable populations.

The Air Quality Index (AQI) in several areas of Delhi and its neighboring cities has crossed the 400 mark, indicating hazardous conditions. Authorities have urged schools to minimize outdoor activities and adopt online classes to ensure the safety of students.

Many schools in Delhi, Noida, and Gurugram have already implemented a mix of online and offline classes, allowing parents to choose the most suitable mode for their children. Health advisories have also been issued, advising residents to wear masks, use air purifiers, and avoid strenuous outdoor activities.

Environmental experts have cited vehicular emissions, construction dust, and unfavorable weather conditions as major contributors to the deteriorating air quality. The government is expected to review additional measures, including curbs on industrial activities and traffic restrictions, to combat the crisis.
