Delhi, December 13, 2024: The air quality in Delhi remains firmly in the “poor” category, with the overall Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded at 242 earlier in the day. Specific areas, including Mundka (AQI 324), Jahangirpuri (AQI 274), and Anand Vihar (AQI 286), continue to report alarmingly high levels of pollution. Contributing factors such as low wind speeds, cold wave conditions, and temperature inversions are preventing the dispersion of pollutants, intensifying the city’s smog problem.
This situation follows recent relaxations in the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), which had initially implemented stricter measures to combat severe pollution levels. Experts warn that pollution may deteriorate further in the coming days due to an approaching western disturbance coupled with emissions from vehicular and industrial sources.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have taken measures to control emissions, including restrictions on non-compliant vehicles and enhanced checks on industrial outputs. The public, particularly vulnerable groups like children and the elderly, is advised to take precautionary measures to minimize health risks.
