New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit the United States from September 21 to 23, as part of a three-day trip aimed at strengthening global partnerships and discussing key international issues. The visit will include participation in the Quad Leaders’ Summit in Wilmington, Delaware, hosted by US President Joe Biden , and an address at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York. This visit underscores India’s commitment to the Indo-Pacific region and ongoing efforts to foster collaborations in technology and development.

During his time in the US, PM Modi will meet with leaders from Japan, Australia, and the US to review the progress made by the Quad alliance over the past year and to set future goals. He will interact with the Indian diaspora in New York and hold bilateral meetings with various world leaders. The trip is expected to strengthen India’s ties with the US and other Quad nations, while also addressing pressing global challenges.

Along with his official engagements, PM Modi is also expected to meet former US President Donald Trump during his visit. Trump recently confirmed the meeting, describing Modi as a “fantastic man” while speaking at a town hall in Michigan.

September 21: Quad Summit in Wilmington

The main highlight of PM Modi’s visit will be his participation in the Quad Leaders’ Summit in Wilmington, Delaware, on September 21. The Summit will be hosted by US President Joe Biden , and will include Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the leaders will review the progress made by the Quad over the past year and set the agenda for assisting the Indo-Pacific region in meeting its development aspirations.

This is a significant event, as President Biden is hosting the Quad leaders in his hometown of Wilmington, a first for a sitting US president. Biden’s spokesperson, Karine Jean-Pierre, highlighted the importance of the Quad in fostering strong relationships between the countries. With India slated to host the Quad Summit next year, this meeting will further strengthen the strategic partnership among the four nations.

September 22: Indian Community Event and CEO Meetings in New York

On September 22, PM Modi will travel to New York, where he will address a gathering of the Indian community at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Titled ‘Modi & US Progress Together’, this event is expected to draw over 24,000 members of the Indian diaspora. The Prime Minister’s address will highlight the strengthening relationship between India and the US and emphasize the contributions of the Indian-American community.

Later, PM Modi will meet with CEOs of several leading US-based companies to explore collaborations in cutting-edge technological areas such as artificial intelligence, quantum computing, semiconductors, and biotechnology. He will also engage with thought leaders and stakeholders involved in enhancing India-US bilateral relations, focusing on boosting innovation and economic ties between the two countries.

September 23: Summit of the Future at UNGA

On the final day of his visit, September 23, PM Modi will address the ‘Summit of the Future’ at the United Nations General Assembly in New York. This year’s theme for the Summit is ‘Multilateral Solutions for a Better Tomorrow’. Global leaders from various nations are expected to participate in this crucial event, where discussions will focus on collective global action to address pressing challenges.

During a campaign event in Michigan, former US President Donald Trump announced that he will meet with PM Modi during his visit to the United States. Trump praised Modi as a “fantastic” leader, emphasising the strength and capabilities of Indian leadership.

This meeting marks an important engagement, as both leaders look to enhance bilateral relations. The last time they met was in February 2020 during Trump’s visit to India, which featured the grand “Namaste Trump” event in Ahmedabad.

However, the itinerary for PM Modi’s visit does not include any details about the upcoming meeting with Trump.
