Delhi Faces Persistent Air Pollution Crisis; AQI Stands at 224

New Delhi, December 10, 2024: New Delhi continues to struggle with significant air pollution as the Air Quality Index (AQI) remains at a “poor” level of 224. A thick layer of smog is blanketing the city, reducing visibility and causing health concerns for residents. Factors contributing to the ongoing pollution crisis include stubble burning in neighboring states, Diwali fireworks, and low wind speeds that have trapped pollutants in the atmosphere.

While the air quality has improved compared to the “severe” levels observed in previous weeks, it remains a serious issue. Certain areas of the city, such as Bawana and New Moti Bagh, are experiencing an AQI level over 400, placing them in the “severe” category. This continues to exacerbate the public health crisis, as vulnerable groups are at risk of respiratory issues and other health complications.

In response to the ongoing air pollution, authorities have issued advisories for residents to limit outdoor activities, particularly for those with pre-existing health conditions. The city’s environment officials are closely monitoring the situation, with a focus on controlling sources of pollution such as vehicular emissions and open burning.

As the air quality continues to pose a challenge, the government is calling for continued efforts to address the issue and reduce the impact of stubble burning and other pollutants. Experts warn that until wind conditions improve, the city’s pollution levels will likely remain high, requiring both immediate and long-term solutions.
