India Raises Alarm Over Minority Safety in Bangladesh Amid Rising Violence

New Delhi, December 9, 2024 — India has raised concerns regarding the safety of minorities in Bangladesh, following recurring incidents of violence against them. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar informed the Indian Parliament about the rising tensions, particularly highlighting the recent violence during the Durga Puja celebrations in Bangladesh. He emphasized that it is the responsibility of the Bangladeshi government to ensure the protection of all its citizens, including religious minorities, and confirmed that India has conveyed its concerns to the Bangladeshi government.

The Indian government specifically pointed out reports of attacks on temples and religious sites, which have caused widespread distress among the minority Hindu community. Jaishankar noted that India has consistently urged Bangladesh to take necessary actions to safeguard these vulnerable communities, ensuring that their rights are upheld amidst escalating violence.

This exchange between the two nations has sparked discussions on the protection of minorities in Bangladesh, a long-standing point of contention. India continues to closely monitor the situation, emphasizing the importance of diplomatic dialogue to address these critical issues of minority rights and safety.
