New Delhi, December 7, 2024: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will travel to Russia next week to participate in the 21st meeting of the Inter-Governmental Commission on Military-Technical Cooperation (IRIGC-MTC). The high-level visit underscores India’s commitment to strengthening its defense and strategic ties with Russia.
During the meeting, both sides are expected to review the progress of ongoing defense projects, including joint production and technology transfer initiatives. Discussions will also focus on diversifying the defense partnership to align with evolving global security dynamics.
The commission meeting serves as an annual platform for India and Russia to evaluate and enhance their defense cooperation, particularly in areas such as military hardware acquisition, manufacturing, and maintenance. This year’s meeting holds added significance amid geopolitical developments and India’s emphasis on achieving self-reliance in defense manufacturing under the “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” initiative.
In addition to the commission meeting, Rajnath Singh is likely to hold bilateral discussions with his Russian counterpart, Sergei Shoigu, to explore new avenues for collaboration in defense technology and innovation.
