Shinde’s Push for Home Ministry Could Reshape Maharashtra Cabinet

Mumbai, December 7, 2024: Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) leader and Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has reportedly demanded the Home Ministry portfolio during ongoing discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. According to a senior Sena MLA, negotiations over portfolio allocation in the state cabinet are actively underway.

The demand for the Home portfolio comes as Shinde aims to consolidate his faction’s influence in the state government amid political realignments in Maharashtra. The MLA, speaking on condition of anonymity, revealed that Shinde has emphasized the importance of key portfolios in ensuring effective governance and addressing public concerns.

Meanwhile, BJP sources have indicated that discussions are focused on achieving a balanced allocation of portfolios between the alliance partners. The BJP is expected to retain critical portfolios such as Finance and Urban Development, while the Sena is pushing for Home and Revenue.

The power-sharing arrangement between the BJP and the Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) has been a subject of intense deliberation since their coalition came to power. Observers believe that the final decision on portfolio allocation will reflect the evolving dynamics of the alliance.

Further announcements are expected soon, as both parties aim to settle differences and present a united front ahead of upcoming elections in the state.
