Lucknow, December 6, 2024 – Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has once again stirred controversy with his remarks about Bangladesh, claiming that anarchy in the country will continue as long as the “spirit of Jinnah” persists. Referring to Pakistan’s founder, Mohammad Ali Jinnah, Adityanath stated that the ideology of partition, which Jinnah represented, continues to have an impact on the politics and situation in Bangladesh. His comments were made during a political gathering in Lucknow, as part of his ongoing critique of the political developments in neighboring countries.
In his statement, Adityanath emphasized that the ideology that led to the creation of Pakistan remains a source of turmoil in the region, adding that the roots of violence and instability in Bangladesh can be traced back to Jinnah’s legacy. He criticized the continuing influence of this partitionist ideology, suggesting that it is a major factor behind the unrest in Bangladesh. This assertion aligns with his broader nationalist stance, which often targets the historical and ideological factors he believes undermine regional stability.
The remarks have sparked criticism from political leaders and observers, with many calling it an unnecessary and divisive statement. Opposition leaders in India have accused Adityanath of making provocative statements that undermine diplomatic relations and worsen tensions with Bangladesh. On the other hand, some of his supporters argue that the statement reflects his strong stance on national security and the preservation of India’s cultural identity. Adityanath’s comments have revived debates surrounding South Asian geopolitics, particularly concerning the legacy of partition and its continued impact on regional dynamics.
