New Delhi, December 6, 2024: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the “Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav,” a three-day festival from December 6 to 8 at Bharat Mandapam, celebrating the cultural and economic diversity of Northeast India. The event aims to showcase the rich heritage of the eight northeastern states—Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Manipur, Nagaland, Mizoram, Tripura, and Sikkim. It will highlight the region’s traditional textiles, handicrafts, and agricultural products, promoting their significance on a national and international scale.
The festival will feature a range of exhibitions, including traditional crafts and Geographical Indication (GI) products, offering visitors a glimpse into the unique artistry of the region. In addition to cultural performances, the event will host technical sessions focused on women’s leadership and the region’s growing potential in key sectors such as information technology, energy, and healthcare. This initiative aims to encourage collaboration and growth across industries by fostering cross-sector dialogue.
A special highlight of the festival will be a fashion show showcasing regional textiles such as Muga and Eri silk, celebrated for their exceptional quality. There will also be a marketplace, giving artisans the opportunity to connect with buyers and investors. The “Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav” aims to contribute to the development of Northeast India, enhancing its visibility and fostering economic opportunities.
