Maharashtra Government Formation: Eknath Shinde Set to Become Deputy CM

Mumbai, December 5, 2024: Eknath Shinde, the leader of the Shiv Sena (Shinde faction), is set to take the oath as Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister. This announcement was made by Shiv Sena leader Uday Samant, following a series of discussions within the Mahayuti alliance, which includes the BJP, Shiv Sena, and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). According to Samant, Shinde’s appointment was decided unanimously by all 60 Shiv Sena MLAs, who collectively supported his leadership for the deputy CM position.

The formation of the Maharashtra government has drawn significant attention, especially after the recent state elections in which the BJP emerged as the largest party, with Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) securing a significant number of seats. The BJP is expected to retain the Chief Minister’s position, with the Deputy Chief Minister roles being allocated to other alliance members.

Several rounds of negotiations have taken place to finalize the portfolios and leadership roles within the new government. The delay in these discussions has sparked political tension, but the swearing-in ceremony for the new government is scheduled to take place later today in Mumbai.

This political shift and the formation of the new government have generated considerable interest, especially considering the Shinde faction’s control over Shiv Sena and its potential impact on Maharashtra’s governance.
