Air Quality in Delhi Remains Poor for Third Day, Visibility Improves Slightly

Delhi, December 4, 2024: Delhi’s air quality has recorded “poor” levels for the third consecutive day, continuing to pose challenges to the city’s residents. The air quality index (AQI) stood at 285 on Sunday, categorizing the air as “poor” according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). Despite the deteriorating air quality, visibility improved somewhat, aided by the influence of dry northwest winds, which helped disperse pollutants in the atmosphere.

This air quality status follows a period of high pollution, during which the city had experienced very poor air quality. Authorities have been closely monitoring the situation, and experts have pointed to factors such as vehicular emissions and industrial activity as contributors to the pollution. While air quality has improved compared to earlier in the week, the ongoing pollution still poses health risks, particularly to vulnerable groups.

Efforts to manage the air pollution and mitigate its effects continue, with a focus on improving waste management and reducing emissions from vehicles. Meanwhile, Delhi’s weather department has forecast clearer skies during the day, though the air quality remains in the “poor” range. The authorities are urging residents to limit exposure to outdoor air, especially during high-pollution periods.
