NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court of India has raised serious concerns regarding the ongoing delay in the investigation of the illegal assets case involving Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy. During a recent hearing, Justice Sanjeev Khanna questioned the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) over the reasons for the prolonged delay in the trial. The Court emphasized that the investigation should not be hindered by political considerations, urging the CBI to provide a clear explanation for the slow progress of the case.
The CBI has cited the pendency of several discharge petitions as one of the main reasons for the delay, but the Court expressed its dissatisfaction with this justification. The apex court has now directed the agency to expedite the trial proceedings, signaling its growing frustration with the lack of progress in a case that has been ongoing for several years without significant outcomes.
The Supreme Court’s intervention comes after multiple instances of concerns raised about the slow pace of the investigation, which has drawn public and legal scrutiny. The Court’s focus is on ensuring that the trial proceeds without any political influence, with a clear mandate for the case to be resolved efficiently and fairly.
