NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has invited Russian President Vladimir Putin to visit India for the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit, scheduled for next year. The invitation was extended during their meeting at the 16th BRICS Summit in Kazan in October 2024. The two leaders discussed several aspects of their bilateral relations, including political, economic, defense, and energy cooperation. They also touched upon global issues such as the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, emphasizing the need for dialogue and diplomacy to resolve international challenges.
Additionally, Modi and Putin reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the “Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership” between their nations. This discussion builds on their earlier meeting in Moscow in July 2024, where both sides expressed mutual support for tackling global challenges. Their talks are expected to deepen the strategic partnership, with a particular focus on trade, security, and energy cooperation.
The upcoming summit is expected to further strengthen India-Russia relations, providing an opportunity for both nations to enhance collaboration across multiple sectors. This summit could also serve as a crucial moment for the two countries to align their approaches on key global issues, reinforcing their bilateral ties in the face of geopolitical challenges.
