Ram Gopal Varma Case: A Summary of Events
Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has once again failed to appear before Ongole Rural Police in Prakasam district regarding a case filed against him. The case involves allegations that he posted defamatory content about political figures N. Chandrababu Naidu, Nara Lokesh, and Pawan Kalyan on social media. A complaint was lodged by Muttanapalli Ramalingam, TDP Mandal General Secretary from Maddipadu, at the Maddipadu Police Station.
Previously, Varma had approached the High Court seeking protection from arrest, but the court denied his request, directing him to cooperate with the investigation. He was asked to appear for questioning on November 19, but he sought an extension of four days through a WhatsApp message to the Ongole Police. A second notice was issued asking him to appear on November 25, which he also did not comply with.
In light of his repeated absences, the Ongole Police prepared to arrest him and reportedly reached his residence in Hyderabad. However, sources suggest that Varma is currently in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, attending a wedding, as confirmed by his tweet. Meanwhile, his legal team stated that they have filed a quash petition in court and informed the police via WhatsApp that he would not be able to attend.
The allegations stem from promotional activities for his film Vyuham, during which Varma is accused of posting content that defamed the personalities of Chandrababu Naidu, Nara Lokesh, and Brahmani. A similar complaint was also filed at the Thulluru Police Station by Nuthalapati Ramarao, Vice President of TDP’s Farmers’ Wing.
