    MBBS Seats: NEET candidates converting for MBBS seats.. Alert counseling committee

    Many candidates have trodden hurdles to get MBBS seats. They changed their religion at the same time with the aim of getting medical seats anyway. Investigation by the officials has revealed that more than 12 candidates have converted to religion in this way to get seats in minority colleges in UP. Officials have found that all of them have violated the Conversion Act 2021.

    Meerut, September 18: Many candidates have trod the hurdles to get MBBS seats. They changed their religion at the same time with the aim of getting medical seats anyway. Investigation by the officials has revealed that more than 12 candidates have converted to religion in this way to get seats in minority colleges in UP. Officials have found that all of them have violated the Conversion Act 2021. The authorities are scrutinizing the 20 admissions that have come to light. The Directorate of Medical Education has ordered a full inquiry into the certificates submitted by the candidates. The Uttar Pradesh Home Ministry has been informed to this extent. Out of total 20 candidates, 7 admissions were canceled. Seven others voluntarily withdrew their admissions.

    A woman who converted for admission to MBBS course in a minority medical college in Meerut has become a sensation across the UP state. Students from Prayagraj, Varanasi, Bijnor, Meerut, Hapur, Muzaffarnagar in the state of Uttar Pradesh, as well as students from New Delhi and Maharashtra have also been found to be proselytizing. Along with Uttar Pradesh Home Department, New Delhi and Maharashtra Police have been informed about this.

    Around 12 lakh (1.2 million) of those admitted in the first round of NEET-UG-2024 counselling. This time the number of minority candidates has increased more than last year in the first round of counselling. Upon realizing this, the officials took up the screening (up) of the documents. It turns out that these candidates got minority status only a few weeks ago. With this, Director General Medical Education and Training Kinjal Singh took swift action by verifying the documents from the concerned districts within 48 hours.

    A declaration in the form prescribed in Schedule-l must be made to the District Magistrate or Additional District at least sixty days in advance if a person wishes to change his religion. The Magistrate, specially authorized by the District Magistrate, shall inform the applicant that he wishes to change his religion without any coercion or inducement with his consent. The law says that a person who conducts a conversion ceremony to convert a person from one religion to another must give one month’s advance notice. Generally, minority candidates can get a seat in a minority institution even if the rank is lower for them. The counseling committee was immediately alerted as some candidates tried to take advantage of this opportunity.
