VIJAYAWADA: Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan has outlined an ambitious target to generate seven crore man-days as part of the state’s implementation of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS). The initiative aims to provide employment opportunities while enhancing rural infrastructure, benefiting approximately 54 lakh families across the state. Kalyan highlighted that this drive is central to improving rural livelihoods and ensuring the effective use of funds allocated for rural development projects.
The focus on generating a substantial number of man-days aligns with the state’s broader objectives of fostering sustainable rural economic growth. By prioritizing labor-intensive development activities, Andhra Pradesh intends to enhance both social and economic outcomes in its rural areas. Kalyan’s statement reflects the government’s ongoing commitment to revitalizing the rural economy through large-scale employment initiatives.
This goal is also in line with the state’s efforts to maximize the potential of MGNREGS, which is one of India’s largest social security schemes. The program’s emphasis on providing wage employment in rural areas has proven to be an effective tool in alleviating poverty and ensuring economic stability, particularly during times of crisis. The focus on infrastructure projects like road-building and irrigation is expected to further boost rural development.
By increasing man-day generation, the state hopes to significantly contribute to rural prosperity while addressing unemployment. The state’s active participation in MGNREGS has already shown positive outcomes, and this new target is expected to further solidify Andhra Pradesh’s role in leveraging the national employment guarantee program to benefit its rural population.
