AP Assembly Passes Land Grabbing Bill to Strengthen Law and Order

VIJAYAWADA: The Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly passed the Land Grabbing (Prohibition) Bill 2024 and seven other key bills during the penultimate day of its budget session. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu emphasized that the new legislation aims to address land-related disputes, safeguard citizens’ property rights, and strengthen law and order. Naidu criticized the previous administration for allowing unchecked land grabbing and illegal activities, describing their policies as encouraging land mafias. Revenue Minister Anagani Satya Prasad highlighted that over 90% of complaints received by the government were related to land disputes.

Naidu stressed that economic development requires a safe environment for residents and investors. He announced plans to fill 6,100 vacant police posts and establish a National Forensic Science campus to combat cybercrime and organized crime. The bill imposes strict penalties on land grabbers, aiming to protect public interest and deter criminal activities.

The Assembly also passed several other important bills, including the AP Goods and Services (Amendment) Bill 2024 and the AP Charitable and Hindu Religious Institutions and Endowments (Amendment) Bill. These legislations reflect the State’s commitment to improving transparency, governance, and public welfare.

Naidu concluded by reiterating that maintaining law and order is essential for Andhra Pradesh’s vision of becoming a hub for knowledge-based industries, ensuring its transformation into ‘Swarnadhara Pradesh.’
