NEW DELHI: REC Power Development and Consultancy Ltd. (RECPDCL) has officially transferred the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) for the Khavda transmission project to Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL). This transfer is part of RECPDCL’s ongoing efforts to develop critical power transmission infrastructure through a tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) process. The Khavda transmission project is vital for evacuating renewable energy generated from the Khavda region in Gujarat, which plays a significant role in achieving India’s ambitious renewable energy targets.
The project involves establishing a robust transmission system to support the increasing demand for renewable energy, especially in areas like Gujarat, which are rapidly scaling up their solar and wind energy capacity. The Khavda transmission system will enable the efficient movement of electricity from renewable sources to the national grid, making it an essential component of India’s energy transition strategy.
As the winner of the competitive bidding process, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (PGCIL) will now oversee the implementation of the project. This transition is in line with the Ministry of Power’s broader vision to enhance the country’s transmission infrastructure to accommodate an increasing share of renewable energy. PGCIL’s expertise in large-scale infrastructure projects positions it to successfully execute this ambitious transmission plan.
RECPDCL’s transfer of the project to PGCIL is also a part of its broader strategy to streamline the development of power transmission infrastructure, particularly in regions critical for renewable energy integration. The Khavda transmission project is expected to contribute significantly to India’s renewable energy goals, which include increasing the share of non-fossil fuel-based electricity in the country’s energy mix.
