Washington: Indian-American entrepreneur-turned-politician Vivek Ramaswamy, alongside Tesla CEO Elon Musk, has been tasked with leading the newly formed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) in the United States. Speaking at an event in Mar-a-Lago, Florida, Ramaswamy hinted at drastic measures to reduce federal government jobs. “Elon and I are poised to deport millions of unelected federal bureaucrats out of Washington’s bloated system. This is how we’ll rejuvenate this country,” he declared, adding that Musk’s approach would be more akin to wielding a chainsaw than a chisel in tackling bureaucracy.
Ramaswamy expressed optimism about the nation’s future, stating that recent developments marked a turning point for America. “For years, we’ve been told we are a nation in decline, but I believe we are back on the rise. The best days of America are still ahead,” he said. Highlighting the ethos of hard work and meritocracy, Ramaswamy envisioned a future where citizens would succeed through dedication, and the most deserving would secure opportunities irrespective of background or race.
To maintain transparency and public engagement, Ramaswamy and Musk announced plans to host weekly livestream updates, humorously dubbed “Dogecasts.” These updates will detail the department’s progress in streamlining the federal government. “Our mission is to create a government that aligns with the vision of the Founding Fathers,” Ramaswamy said, emphasizing their commitment to reducing bureaucracy and enhancing public accountability.
Ramaswamy criticized excessive government regulation, singling out agencies like the FDA and NRC for hindering innovation and economic growth. He described DOGE’s efforts as a “modern Manhattan Project,” assembling top minds to address inefficiencies. “The federal bureaucracy is America’s biggest obstacle. By targeting its cost and size, we can restore self-governance and economic vitality,” he asserted, positioning DOGE as a transformative initiative to reshape governance.
