YS Sharmila Fires on YSRCP : YS Sharmila criticized the YSRCP, stating that the people, frustrated with the misrule of Chief Minister Jagan, voted decisively for the alliance in the recent elections. As Andhra Pradesh Congress President, she questioned why YSRCP leaders, with 38% vote share, are not attending the Assembly. Sharmila mocked them, saying that votes were cast not for them to stay at home but to represent the people in the Assembly. She emphasized that they should stand in the Assembly and speak on behalf of the public. She made these statements during a press meet in Vijayawada.
Sharmila urged the 11 opposition members from YSRCP to act as public representatives, even if they are not part of the opposition, by attending the Assembly sessions. She demanded that if YSRCP lacks the courage to attend the Assembly, they should resign. She criticized the YSRCP for undermining the Congress, saying that just because the Congress vote share was low, it doesn’t mean the party lacks existence or relevance.
She further remarked that if YSRCP members don’t attend the Assembly, there is no difference between their party and the Congress. Sharmila also commented on the offensive social media posts against her and demanded that those responsible should not be pardoned, even if they apologize. She insisted that arrests related to such posts should be viewed from a social perspective rather than a political one.
During a media interaction on Wednesday, reporters asked Chief Minister Jagan about Sharmila’s demand for YSRCP MLAs to resign if they choose not to attend the Assembly. He responded by dismissing her comments, saying, “Let’s not talk about my sister here; they only have a 1.7% vote share. Congress has no existence in Andhra Pradesh, so there’s no need to discuss them.” Following his statement, Sharmila reacted strongly to his remarks.
