Olympian Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar and Sanjeeta Das won the gold medal for India in the 10m air rifle mixed team event at the World University Shooting Championship in New Delhi on Wednesday. This victory marked India’s third gold at the event. Aishwary, who had previously faced disappointment with a fifth-place finish in the men’s 10m air rifle event and a silver in the 50m rifle 3-positions, found redemption by securing the top spot alongside Sanjeeta. Together, they defeated South Korean shooters Kim Hyobeen and Lee Junhwan 17-15 in a tightly contested final.
The Indian duo had earlier dominated the qualification round, finishing first with a combined score of 633.0, while their South Korean opponents, who qualified second, scored 631.7. In the bronze-medal match, the Polish team of Julia Piotrowska and Maciej Kowalewicz defeated the Indian pair of Manini Kaushik and Umamahesh Maddineni 16-0. Manini and Umamahesh had placed fourth in qualification with a total score of 628.7.
This gold adds to India’s impressive showing at the championship, where other shooters also clinched top honors. On Tuesday, Bhavtegh Singh Gill won India’s second gold in skeet shooting, and the air pistol mixed team of Palak Gulia and Amit Sharma secured the first gold on Sunday. With 220 shooters from 23 countries competing, the championship is being hosted by Manav Rachna International Institute of Research and Studies.
The competition has proven to be a major success for India, with multiple podium finishes across different shooting events. Aishwary and Sanjeeta’s victory in the 10m air rifle mixed team event showcases their skill and determination, adding another prestigious win to India’s shooting sports legacy.
