India Economic Summit: Gambhir Defends His Blunt Style, Criticizes Ponting’s Comments
Gautam Gambhir has been under intense scrutiny following India’s 3-0 home Test series loss to New Zealand. Known for his candidness, Gambhir, the current Head Coach of the Indian cricket team, did not hold back in responding to former Australian cricketer Ricky Ponting’s criticism of Virat Kohli’s form. Gambhir fired back, advising Ponting to focus on Australian cricket, rather than commenting on India’s team selection. His blunt responses to the media have sparked a debate, with some, including former cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar, urging the BCCI to keep Gambhir away from media interactions.
In the 4th edition of the India Economic Summit, hosted by the Republic Media Network, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman spoke on various issues, including the economic ambitions of India. In her address, she defended Gambhir’s outspokenness, acknowledging the pressure to conform to critics and societal expectations.
Meanwhile, India’s cricket team is now focused on their upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against Australia, aiming to retain the title. As the defending champions, India is targeting a fifth consecutive series win against the formidable Aussies.
