Andhra Pradesh Earmarks Rs 18,421 Crore for Health, Launches ‘Health for All’ Programs

Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh government has allocated Rs 18,421 crore for the Health, Medical, and Family Welfare Department for the fiscal year 2024-25, marking an increase of Rs 2,539 crore from the previous year’s allocation of Rs 15,882 crore. Presenting the budget on Monday, Finance Minister Payyavula Keshav emphasized that the increased allocation underscores the government’s commitment to making healthcare accessible and affordable for all. “Our priority is to provide quality healthcare services that are accessible and timely,” he stated, citing ongoing reforms to achieve the goal of “Health for All.”

Finance Minister Keshav also introduced the STEMI program, aimed at addressing the rising cases of cardiovascular diseases by ensuring necessary medical equipment and trained personnel are available. He highlighted the recent launch of a statewide cancer screening initiative designed to identify patients early and connect them with advanced medical facilities for effective treatment.

Under the School Health Programme, the government plans to screen Anganwadi children and students up to 18 years of age for four categories—defects at birth, deficiency diseases, developmental delays, and disabilities (4Ds). Infrastructure upgrades at medical facilities, including Primary Health Centres (PHCs) and General Hospitals, are also planned as part of the broader health reform initiative.

Keshav further noted the government’s commitment to flagship health programs like Dr. NTR Vaidya Seva, enhancements to the 108 and 104 ambulance services, and initiatives under the National Health Mission. He highlighted that Andhra Pradesh’s maternal and child health indicators already exceed national averages, with further improvements expected to ensure the well-being of mothers and children.
