In Vijayawada, Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha has instructed the police to take a firm stance against abusive social media posts targeting political leaders, women, and other vulnerable sections of society. During a video conference with DGP Ch Dwaraka Tirumala Rao, Intelligence Chief Mahesh Chandra Laddha, and district SPs, Anitha reviewed the law and order situation in the state and emphasized the importance of addressing online abuse.
The Home Minister stated that the state government is exploring the possibility of introducing special legislative measures to strengthen the prosecution of those responsible for social media harassment. She directed the district SPs to take stringent legal action against individuals involved in posting objectionable content, applying relevant sections of the law related to organized crime and criminal conspiracy to send a strong message to perpetrators.
To effectively tackle social media abuse, social media cells have been set up at the DGP’s office as well as in all districts. Additionally, Anitha urged the SPs to focus on cases of missing women and girls, establishing special teams to intensify investigations. She recommended daily reviews by the DGP through teleconferences to closely monitor case progress and implement corrective measures when necessary. Anitha also proposed the establishment of special courts to expedite cases related to crimes against women and children.
Earlier, DGP Ch Dwaraka Tirumala Rao met with Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan at his camp office in Mangalagiri.
