Election Commission officials have completed arrangements for polling in maximum 7 seats in Anantnag district, 4 in Pulwama, 3 in Kulgam, two constituencies in Kishtwar, Doda, Shopian and Ramban districts. Doda, Ramban and Kishtwar districts are in Jammu division while Anantnag, Pulwama, Kulgam and Shopian are in Kashmir division.
In the first phase, 219 candidates are in the fray. Among them 9 women and 92 independent candidates. Pampore seat in Pulwama has maximum number of 14 candidates. At the same time, the Bijbehara seat in Anantnag was contested between only three candidates. A total of 110 candidates are millionaires, while criminal cases have been registered against 36 candidates. Among the 21 candidates of Mehbooba Mufti-led Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), 18 are millionaires.
Bijbehara constituency, which is a stronghold of Mufti’s family, will also go to polls in this phase. Iltija, daughter of PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti, is contesting the election for the first time. Mehbooba and her father Mufti Mohammad Saeed held the responsibilities as CMs. Polling for all 90 assembly seats in Jammu and Kashmir will be held in three phases on September 18, September 25 and October 1. The results will be declared on October 8.
Actually after ten years assembly elections are going on in Jammu and Kashmir. In 2014 election, PDP won maximum 28 seats and BJP won 25 seats. Both parties formed the government together.
