AP Cabinet Set to Introduce Landmark Land Grabbing Act, Discuss Key Policies for State Development

VIJAYAWADA: The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, is set to convene at the State Secretariat on Wednesday, where several key decisions are expected.

According to sources, the primary item on the agenda is the Land Grabbing Prohibition Bill, anticipated to be introduced in the upcoming Assembly session. During the presentation of a white paper titled ‘Misappropriation of Natural Resources – Land, Mines, Minerals and Forests’ at the State Secretariat in July, Naidu announced plans for a new AP Land Grabbing Act, modeled after the Gujarat Land Grabbing Act of 2020. He emphasized that strict actions would be taken against those engaged in illegal activities such as exploiting natural resources and looting public and government properties. The enactment of the Act has become essential, as 80% of complaints received in various forums are land-related.

The Cabinet is also expected to discuss a 34% reservation for Backward Classes (BCs) in nominated posts, fulfilling a commitment made by the ruling coalition to the BC community during the elections. Additionally, a decision on the cancellation of Government Order 77 (GO 77) is likely. The Cabinet may also consider approving a proposed steel plant in Anakapalle district.

The agenda for the Cabinet meeting includes discussions on sports, information technology, drone, and semiconductor policies. The Chief Minister previously reviewed these topics and instructed officials to develop Andhra Pradesh’s drone policy to be the best in the country, aiming to attract increased investments.

Following the Cabinet meeting, Naidu will preside over a high-level meeting to discuss a 10-point action plan for the State’s development. This meeting, which will be conducted both offline and online, will focus on the theme ‘Simple Government – Effective Governance’.
