Security Forces Kill Two Terrorists in Anantnag Encounter Amid Rising Tensions in Jammu and Kashmir

Jammu: In a major success, security forces on Saturday, November 2, gunned down two terrorists during an encounter in Anantnag area of Jammu and Kashmir. The killed terrorist include, a Pakistani national and a local.

The local terrorist has been identified as Zahid Reshi, a resident of Hassanpora in Anantnag in south Kashmir. According to sources, Zahid was actively involved in terror-related activities since April 2024. The gunbattle broke out after security forces initiated an anti-terrorist operation in the area.

This came hours after a similar encounter broke out in Bandipora and Srinagar’s Khanyar area amid a terror attack in the Union Territory. Meanwhile, security forces are on high alert amid a spate of terror attacks in the region. Twin encounters were launched in the Bandipora and Srinagar areas as security forces conducted an intensive search operation following gunfire near an Army camp on Friday. According to sources, a Pakistani terrorist is believed to be trapped in Srinagar. It is suspected that the trapped terrorist is responsible for targeted killings in different parts of J&K.

This development comes a day after at least two non-local labourers were shot at by terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Budgam district. The attack prompted the Army to launched a security operation and a search process to nab the terrorists. The latest attack on migrant workers was the fifth attack by terrorists in the Kashmir Valley since the formation of an elected government headed by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. Previously on October 24, two soldiers and two Army porters were killed while another porter and a soldier were injured in a militant attack on an Army vehicle 6 kilometres from the tourist hotspot Gulmarg. Earlier that day, terrorists shot at and injured Shubam Kumar, a labourer from Uttar Pradesh, in the Tral area of Pulwama district.
