Problems Faced by RTC Employees Due to YSRCP Government
The mistakes made by the YSRCP government have become a curse for RTC employees. Due to the omission of allowances in GO 114, each employee has suffered losses amounting to lakhs. Although the coalition government directed the resolution of this issue and the approval of allowances for all RTC employees, the file has not progressed due to the negligence of the finance department officials. As a result, RTC employees are anxious as funds have not been credited to their accounts. They are appealing to Chief Minister Chandrababu to address their hardships.
RTC staff, who consistently provide transportation services to the public, have been denied various allowances by the management. Following the merger with the government, the previous YSRCP administration indiscriminately eliminated these allowances, leaving thousands of drivers and conductors without support since January 2020. Despite the efforts of employee unions to advocate for the allowances, the YSRCP government has failed to respond. Leaders from all unions have written letters to then-CM Jagan requesting the approval of these allowances, but they went unanswered. Consequently, each driver has lost lakhs due to a monthly shortfall of ₹4,000.
In an attempt to quell dissent, Jagan issued a GO, but it did not clearly specify the night-out allowances. Treasury officials have stated that they would grant approval only if the GO was amended to explicitly mention night-out allowances. The YSRCP government’s deceitful attitude and vague GO have left thousands of RTC employees struggling without their due allowances.
Although senior RTC officials provided explanations regarding the delays, they showed inertia in granting approval, according to union leaders. Recently, leaders from NMU and SWF wrote letters to the Finance Secretary, but there has been no response. Consequently, allowances have not been granted to staff again this month. Employees are expressing concerns, feeling that even if God grants blessings, the officials in the finance department are unwilling to deliver.
Instead of enhancing benefits after the merger, the YSRCP government has eliminated crucial benefits that have been in place for decades, leaving RTC employees in distress. Union leaders are expressing their anguish and calling for swift justice, placing their hopes on the coalition government.
