Income Tax Exemption for Donations to ‘Anna Canteen’ Charitable Trust

Charitable Trust in the Name of Anna Canteen: Donations made to Anna Canteens will now qualify for income tax exemptions. The government is establishing a charitable trust under the name “Anna Canteen” to collect donations from various organizations as part of corporate social responsibility (CSR). The trust is set to launch next month, following the opening of 204 canteens across the state on August 15, where over 150,000 meals are served daily at subsidized rates.

With many donors coming forward, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has directed the Municipal and Urban Development Department to register the trust, which is now complete, and a dedicated website for donation collection has been created.

For a donation of ₹26.25 lakh, meals will be provided in the donor’s name for an entire day. In the first phase, arrangements are being made to collect donations for 100 Anna Canteens to provide meals to the poor, with a target of ₹26.25 lakh. Receipts will be issued online, enabling donors to claim income tax exemptions. Details of the donors will be displayed on screens at the canteens.
