In the sand mining operations, then and now, he has maintained control—illegally transporting sand to Hyderabad without restriction

Illegal Sand Mining in Joint Krishna District:

The new state sand policy mandates that sand can only be loaded from identified reaches without machinery, using manual labor instead. However, reports indicate ongoing illegal activities in the Munneru River, where JCBs are loading sand into trucks for a fee of ₹10,000 per truck. Locals note that sand is being transported directly to Hyderabad, especially at night.

A local YSRCP leader, previously involved in sand contracts, has allegedly resumed operations with ministerial backing. Despite a ban on machinery, he is reportedly overseeing illegal mining activities. Local representatives have been obstructing inquiries into these practices, and around 150 trucks are said to be transporting sand to Hyderabad daily.

The loading process operates on a token system, with truck owners paying fees in Vijayawada. While recent flooding has restricted sand mining to Munneru, the proximity to major roads facilitates easy transport. Allegations are emerging that a significant amount of sand has been misappropriated, and local officials are facing scrutiny for their inaction despite the illegal activities being conducted near a national highway.

Irregularities in AP Free Sand Policy:

Despite changes in government and party affiliation, illegal sand mining continues, supported by a minister. Local leaders are allegedly silencing dissent, insisting they know how to manage sand transportation to Hyderabad, while around 150 trucks are reportedly dispatched daily.

A token system governs sand loading, requiring truck owners to pay ₹10,000 for small trucks and ₹20,000 for larger ones in Vijayawada. Flooding in the Krishna River has limited mining to the Munneru region, facilitating transport to Hyderabad. Allegations of significant sand misappropriation have emerged against a prominent local leader, who is believed to operate with ministerial protection.
