    Days After Ganderbal Terror Attack, UP Laborer Shot At by Terrorists in J&K

    Jammu:Just four days after a terror attack unfolded in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ganderbal, claiming seven lives, a non-local laborer was shot by terrorists on Thursday morning. The latest attack took place in the Tral area of South Kashmir.

    Meanwhile, the security forces have cordoned off the area in an attempt to nab the terrorists. A native of Uttar Pradesh, the injured laborer has been identified as Pritam Singh, who has been admitted to a nearby hospital.

    This is the latest in a series of terror attacks in the region. Earlier, on October 20, the terrorists, believed to be at least two, opened indiscriminate fire on a group of laborers, including both locals and non-locals, killing seven on the spot. The terror plot was carried out when the laborers and other staff working on the tunnel project had returned to their camp late in the evening, officials said. Further, investigators have so far rounded up around 43 suspects for questioning as part of the investigation into the deadly terror attack.

    Notably, the attack was carried out near an under-construction tunnel, prompting immediate responses from security forces. Officials reported that the victims were part of a construction team working on the Z-Morh tunnel, which is aimed at connecting Gagangeer to Sonamarg in Central Kashmir.

    Investigators have so far rounded up around 43 suspects for questioning as part of the investigations into the deadly terror attack. Additional forces have been deployed to secure infrastructure projects underway on National Highways in the UT. Along with force deployment, cameras with remote access have also been set up for round-the-clock monitoring of the project sites.

    Earlier on Wednesday, a high-level meeting to assess the security situation was held at the Raj Bhawan in Srinagar. A high alert has been sounded in the Jammu region, and the security of the areas where non-locals reside has also been beefed up. The officials have been asked to strengthen the security in the entire Jammu region after the terror attack. Security forces took position and cordoned off the area in Gagangeer, Sonamarg, Ganderbal, following the terror attack. Authorities have also launched a search operation to neutralize the attackers and ensure the safety of the region.
