New Delhi: A 21-year-old second-year MSc student from IIT Delhi, originally from Deoghar, Jharkhand, was found dead in his hostel room in an apparent suicide, according to the Delhi police. The incident came to light when the student’s friend, along with IIT staff, broke a window to access the room after finding it locked from inside. Inside, they found the student hanging. Despite being taken to Safdarjung Hospital by the college ambulance, doctors declared him brought dead.
No suicide note was discovered at the scene. However, according to the student’s medical records, he had been receiving psychiatric treatment and had an upcoming appointment scheduled for October 29. The body has been kept in a mortuary, and the student’s family has been informed of the incident.
A mobile crime team conducted an inspection of the room but did not find any note from the deceased. Police have recorded statements from the student’s friends, and further investigation is underway under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita.
