New Delhi: Indian Railways has come with initiative to provide discounted fares to specific groups of passengers, including students, patients with serious illnesses, and individuals with disabilities to make their travel affordable. Concessions for Disabled Passengers
Passengers with disabilities, including those who are visually impaired, mentally challenged, or fully disabled, can receive up to a 75% discount on train fares. These discounts apply to General Class, Sleeper, and 3AC.
In 1AC and 2AC classes, disabled passengers are eligible for a 50% concession. For premium trains like Rajdhani and Shatabdi, the discount stands at 25% for 3AC and AC Chair Car bookings.
Escorts traveling with disabled passengers also receive the same discount, ensuring affordable travel for both the individual and their companion.
Passengers who are unable to hear and speak completely will also be eligible for 50% discount while travelling with Indian Railways.
There will also be a PwD quota in all the trains including Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Duronto, Humsafar, Gatimaan, and Vande Bharat express trains, according to Ministry of Railways.
Patients with Serious Medical Conditions can Avail Discounts
Patients with serious medical conditions such as cancer, thalassemia, heart diseases, kidney ailments, haemophilia, tuberculosis, AIDS, ostomy, anaemia, and aplastic anaemia are also entitled to concessions. This initiative helps ease the financial burden of travel for treatment.
Student Travelling to Hometown will get Concessions
Students are eligible for train fare relief when traveling to their hometowns or on educational tours. Discounts range from 50% to 75%, depending on the train class. This concession is particularly beneficial for students undertaking long journeys for academic purposes.
