    Bahraich Encounter: Two Suspects Sustain Bullet Injuries In Police Shooting. What We Know So Far

    Bahraich violence: Five suspects in the Bahraich violence were shot by police during an encounter when they tried to flee to Nepal on Thursday. Two of them have sustained bullet injuries, police said. All of them have been arrested according to the UP Police. The violence had broken out on Sunday when a Durga idol immersion procession was targeted by unknown miscreants when it was passing through a Muslim dominated area. During the clashes, a 22-year-old person named Ram Gopal Mishra was shot dead while at least six others were injured in the stone pelting.

    • The accused were allegedly trying to flee to Nepal, which shares a border with Bahraich district in Uttar Pradesh, the officer said.
    • Five accused in the violence have been arrested so far, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Amitabh Yash said.
    • On the encounter, Amitabh Yash said, “I have information of exchange of fire and gunshot injuries.” He further said that the Bahraich police, investigating the murder and subsequent violence, has already established the link of one of the accused in Nepal.
    • On Sunday, violence broke out at Maharajganj in the Mahsi tehsil of Bahraich district allegedly over loud music being played outside a place of worship during a Durga Puja immersion procession.
    • Ram Gopal Mishra, 22, part of the passing group, died of gunshot wounds in the ensuing violence.
    • The incident triggered vandalism and arson in the area with angry mobs torching several houses, shops, showrooms, hospitals and vehicles.
