Four Lane Road In Perecherla And Kondamodu Route: The Perecherla-Kondamodu route in the united Guntur district is set to receive a significant upgrade. The central government has approved the release of funds to expand this road into four lanes. Work is expected to begin soon. Although funds were allocated for the construction of the road in the past, there were technical issues that delayed progress. Finally, the obstacles have been removed. The Perecherla-Kondamodu route has been selected for expansion to four lanes over a distance of 49.9 kilometers under the Bharatmala project for the 2022-23 financial year. In the tenders conducted in August last year, Rajendra Singh Bembu Infra Private Limited secured the contract with an estimate of ₹1,032.52 crores.
However, the release of funds was delayed, casting a shadow over the expansion. In response, the state R&B (Roads and Buildings) Minister reviewed the situation and met with Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, urging him to continue the roads under the Bharatmala project as part of the National Highways General Program (NHGP). Ultimately, with the approval of the Standing Finance Committee of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the path was cleared for the release of funds. Accordingly, the government called for tenders with an estimate of ₹1,032.52 crores, and a contractor secured the project for ₹881.61 crores.
Years of Anticipation
The desire to expand the road from Perecherla to Kondamodu on the Guntur to Hyderabad route has been a dream for decades. This route connects to the Addanki-Narkatpally state highway at Kondamodu, making it convenient for those traveling to Hyderabad. Additionally, the Kondamodu route is crucial for those heading towards the Palnadu region from Guntur. The central government has recognized the stretch from Kondamodu, near the Pedagurjala area in Palnadu district, to Perecherla near Guntur as a national highway. Although funds were approved by the central government during the previous YSR Congress regime, they were not released due to various reasons. After the coalition government came into power, proposals were sent to the central government, and the R&B (Roads and Buildings) Minister, along with Narasaraopet MP Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu, met with Union Minister Nitin Gadkari to request the release of funds. The district administration has completed the land acquisition process for 234 hectares within the Guntur and Sattenapalli RDO limits for the road expansion.
A Highly Critical Route
This route is extremely convenient for those traveling from Guntur to Palnadu and Hyderabad. The Kondamodu-Perecherla route currently has a width of only 7 to 10 meters, leading to daily accidents occurring at various points. Once the expansion is completed, travel time from Hyderabad to the capital Amaravati will be reduced. This route will connect to the outer ring road being constructed by the CRDA (Capital Region Development Authority) at Sattenapalli. In the four-lane expansion, each side will have a road width of 8.75 meters, with a 1.5-meter divider, resulting in a total width of 22.5 meters, including margins on both sides. A 4 to 5-kilometer bypass will be constructed in Medikonduru, and an 11-kilometer bypass will be built in Sattenapalli.
