Closure of Tirumala Srivari Mettu Footpath: With warnings from the Meteorological Department, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam has taken precautionary measures. TTD officials are making arrangements to ensure devotees are not inconvenienced. The Srivari Mettu footpath has been closed. Surveillance has been set up on the hills, and measures have been taken to prevent traffic jams on the ghat roads. Arrangements have been made to ensure that the devotees’ darshan and accommodations are not disrupted. TTD officials breathed a sigh of relief as there have been no rains after the cyclone crossed the shore.
Cyclone Crossing the Shore: The cyclone that formed in the Bay of Bengal crossed the shore near Thada in the Tirupati district. After crossing the shore, the cyclone weakened into a severe depression. The Meteorological Department has warned that heavy rains are expected in the southern coastal and Rayalaseema districts due to its impact. Rainfall has already been reported in several districts across the state due to the severe depression. Rain is falling in Visakhapatnam, Prakasam, Nellore, Tirupati, and the united Kadapa district. Schools have been declared closed in the united Kadapa district due to the effects of the rain.
Heavy Rains in These Districts: The cyclone crossed the shore near Thada, between Chennai and Nellore. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that the cyclone moved towards the shore at a speed of 22 kilometers per hour over the past six hours. After crossing the shore, it gradually weakened into a depression, according to IMD. It stated that it is expected to weaken further in the next 12 hours. The IMD clarified that moderate to heavy rains are likely in the southern coastal and Rayalaseema districts due to the depression. Indications suggest widespread rainfall from moderate to heavy in Nellore, Tirupati, Kadapa, Annamayya, and Sathya Sai districts.
Chance of Flash Floods: It was revealed that heavy rainfall is expected in certain areas. The IMD clarified that the impact of the rains is likely to diminish by evening. With the depression, strong winds are blowing at speeds of 45 kilometers per hour along the coast of Tamil Nadu and the southern coastal Andhra districts. Warnings have been issued that conditions will remain turbulent along the shore until this afternoon. In light of the heavy rains, there is a possibility of flash floods in the streams and rivers in Nellore, Prakasam, Guntur, and Chittoor and Kadapa districts of Rayalaseema.
Danger Warnings Issued: Currently, a first-level danger warning has been issued at Visakhapatnam and Gangavaram ports, while a third-level danger warning has been issued for the ports of Nizampatnam, Krishnapatnam, and Machilipatnam. The IMD warned that sea waves are expected to rise to 1.5 meters in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, both Godavari districts, Krishna, Guntur, Prakasam, and Nellore districts. It advised that harbor operations in these areas should be conducted with utmost caution.
