NSG is celebrating its 40th Foundation Day. The NSG is going to be used only for its assigned counter-terrorism operations and counter-hijacking operations. It was found that the NSG commandos were being overburdened due to VIP security duties.
The Center took a crucial decision on the occasion of National Security Guards Foundation Day. It has been decided to remove NSG commandos from VVIP security duties. In place of NSG Commandos, CRPF VIP Security Wing is being given responsibility. This decision will be implemented from next month.
Currently 9 leaders across the country have NSG security. Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu, UP CM Yogi Adityanath, Union Ministers Rajnath, Sharwanand Sonowal, Kashmir leaders Farooq Abdullah, Gulannabi Azad, BSP chief Mayawati, BJP senior leader LK Advani have security under NSG commandos. But from next month they will be provided CRPF security instead of NSG.
Henceforth, NSG commandos will be limited to terrorist operations only. A special battalion has already been trained for the VIP security wing of CRPF. Along with Defense Minister Rajnath, UP CM Yogi has special security as well as advance security. Special teams will visit the areas visited by VVIPs beforehand and monitor the security measures. Home Minister Amit Shah, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and three members of the Gandhi family are already being handled by the CRPF.
In 2020 itself, NSG security was removed for Sonia, Rahul and Priyanka and CRPF security was provided. It was then decided to remove NSG commandos from VIP security. Apart from the Ayodhya Ram Temple, NSG commandos are also expected to protect temples in South India.
