Haryana Election Result 2024: The Bharatiya Janata Party ( BJP ) has once again defied exit poll predictions, as the latest trends from the Election Commission indicate the ruling party has surpassed the halfway mark of 46 seats in the Haryana assembly elections. As of 10:20 AM, the BJP is leading in 48 constituencies, while the Congress trails with 34. For the unversed, both parties have been locked in a sea-saw contest since vote counting began at 8 AM. Initial TV reports showed the Congress leading, but the BJP swiftly gained momentum, overtaking its rival.
With the majority mark set at 46 in the 90-seat assembly, the BJP ’s current lead signals its potential to retain control of the state government.
The BJP has been in power in Haryana since 2014 with Manohar Lal Khattar as chief minister for over nine years. The BJP’s second term in office in 2019 was in alliance with the JJP, with Dushyant Singh Chautala as deputy chief minister. Khattar and Chautala quit in March ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, making way for Nayab Singh Saini, a prominent OBC face of the BJP, as chief minister. Chautala’s JJP also snapped ties with the BJP. The Congress was hoping to make a comeback in Haryana with former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda leading the poll campaign.
